Inspiring Clients: Music to our Ears, Meet Miriam Millgate.
We are proud of supporting many interesting and inspiring seniors at Let’s Get Care (LGC). Miriam Millgate was assumed dead when she was born and the doctors predicted many long-term illnesses. But she defied the odds and her infectious laughter and singing touches the hearts of those around her.
Life of Miriam.
Miriam’s journey began with an extraordinary circumstance. Born in 1948 in Glasgow, Scotland without any sign of life, she was initially thought to be stillborn. However, against all odds, she began moving after several minutes.
“When I was born, I was just put to one side while they worked on my mum. It was soon realised that I was indeed alive. I spent the first few weeks of my life in hospital having arrived with several severe genetic challenges. The doctors told my parents to expect a fairly short life, and I would almost certainly be in a wheelchair by about 30 years of age,” Miriam shares. “What they didn’t count on was that I was also born very determined and with a very happy and grateful heart — these things have seen me through the ups and downs of life to today.”
With an unwavering spirit and a heart filled with joy, everyone in her life looks up to this inspiring senior.
Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.
Miriam possesses an array of talents that have brought joy to those around her. She is a gifted singer, captivating people with her melodic voice. Her storytelling skills and love for jokes make her a delightful companion, always ready to bring a smile to the faces of others. Additionally, Miriam enjoys challenging herself with crossword puzzles and has a knack for articulating her thoughts through words.
“Music and laughter have been my companions throughout life, helping me overcome obstacles and find joy in the simplest of moments,” Miriam explains. “At the risk of sounding boastful, I am a good singer, a good storyteller, a good crossword solver and I love jokes. Laughter is a great way of overcoming obstacles.”
Everyone around her says Miriam is an inspiring senior that embraces every new challenge.
Family Ties.
“The photo is of me, my son Greg and his furry friend, Ralph,” Miriam says. “He lives in the next town 40 minutes away and I like seeing him regularly. Especially with the dog. I don’t mean to sound unmotherly but I love the dog.”
Let’s Get Care is Inspiring Seniors Everywhere.
Miriam Millgate’s journey with Let’s Get Care (LGC) began on 17 May 2022, and she has found the services timely and efficient. Her carer recommended LGC to her and she hasn’t looked back since.
“So, about about a few years ago, I received a government Home Care Package, but found myself very dissatisfied with the original nominated provider because my carers were waiting many weeks to be paid,” Miriam remembers. “Last year, Let’s Get Care was recommended to me and I could not be happier with the quality of care and the package management I receive. Sincere thanks one and all, especially to my one-on-one contact and Care Manager, Tori Walker, who is a most reassuring and caring voice on the other end of the line.”
