If you don’t have Home Care Package and would like to get one then this guide is for you!
Step 1: My Aged Care Assessment
Your first step to a Home Care Package is to start the assessment process with My Aged Care by ringing 1 800 200 422. You will be asked questions to determine if you need an in-person assessment completed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). If you do need one then you will have an in-person assessment completed in your own home.
The Assessor will consider you for one of the four levels of Home Care Packages depending on your care needs:
- Level 1 – for basic care needs;
- Level 2 – for low-level care needs;
- Level 3 – for intermediate care needs; and
- Level 4 – for high-level care needs.
He/she will also determine your priority for a package in relation to other individuals based on your level of need and circumstance. Your approval date and priority will determine your place in the national queue for a Home Care Package.
Step 2: Find out the Results
You will receive a letter from ACAT with the outcome of your assessment. If you were successful in your assessment the letter will detail the home care package level you have been approved for. You’ll automatically be placed on the national queue for when package funding becomes available. It can be weeks to several months to receive funding. For national queue times contact My Aged Care.
Step 3: Receive Funding!
When package funding becomes available My Aged Care will write to you with details of your package level and the deadline to finding an approved Provider.
Step 4: Find an Approved Home Care Package Provider
If you’re going with Self Managed, Part Managed or Fully Managed then we highly recommend Let’s Get Care. In comparison to traditional providers, you’ll have complete control over you package, incredibly low fees and complete flexibility.
Step 5: Get your Care Services
Once your Client- Provider agreement is signed and your Care Plan is done, you can start receiving care services!
