The aged care journey can be different for everyone, and we understand you might have a lot of questions. That’s why we’ve put together the most commonly asked topics to help guide you along the way.

The signs and symptoms of dementia or other disorders affecting the brain can be different for everyone, but here are some common things to look out for when needing dementia care at home:

  • They need help completing basic daily living tasks, such as bathing, getting dressed, eating and using the toilet.
  • They cannot be left alone or make decisions that may lead to dangerous situations.
  • A caregiver is presenting signs of burnout, distress or neglecting other parts of their lives that could be relieved through respite care for the dementia patient.

Dementia risk increases with age but is not a normal part of ageing. Only a doctor or medical professional can provide a dementia diagnosis. If you are concerned about a loved one, reach out to their local GP or medical centre.

During a Home Care Package assessment, there are many factors that an assessor will look for to determine the care and support each individual may require. The My Aged Care Assessor will look at things like:

  • To be eligible you need to be an older Australian (generally 65 years or older) or a younger person with an ageing-related illness (like early onset dementia).
  • Your living arrangements and the support you currently receive from family and friends.
  • The types of help or support you may require to live independently.

At Let’s Get Care we have partnerships with 10,000+ service suppliers all over Australia. If you find carers who we don’t currently have an agreement with we can help you onboard them to continue your care with them.

We don’t lock you into using our staff at inflated costs, instead we broker our services nationally. This means you have the freedom to choose and find care workers right for your situation, local to your area.
