It’s important to recognise that depression in older individuals is more common than you think and seeking help is crucial. If any of these signs are observed, don’t hesitate to seek a depression treatment plan through your Home Care Package.

When to consider depression care for older individuals.

You should consider treatment options when persistent symptoms such as continual sadness, loss of interest, sleep disturbances, appetite changes, fatigue, or social withdrawal impact daily life. If an individual exhibits these symptoms of depression, consulting a healthcare professional is crucial. Timely intervention, involving support groups or family care, can lead to effective treatment and an improved quality of life for older adults experiencing a major depressive disorder.

We’ve put together a list of frequently asked questions to guide you through the home care journey. We know it can be confusing, but we hope this helps to explain some of the most commonly confusing topics.

You don’t need to stay with a Provider that you’re not happy with. In February 2017 Consumer Directed Care (CDC) legislation was amended which has empowered Home Care Package (HCP) holders with the freedom and control to actively participate in their care.

If you’re happy with the service you’re getting, then that’s great, but if you want to change to a better solution then you also have the option to change to other providers.

When you decide to change Providers, check your previous Home Care Agreement for any fees or special conditions. Your Agreement will indicate your notice period to leave the Provider.

If your care needs have changed as you’ve gotten older and you are struggling to do what you used to, you may be eligible to receive some help at home from the government.
This may be in the form of a Home Care Package or Commonwealth Home Support Programme. To find out if you are eligible for support from the government you can call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 and request an assessment. The outcome of the assessment will determine if you are eligible for a Home Care Package, Commonwealth Home Support Programme, or neither at that present time. You can also call us and we can help you on this assessment journey.

Home Care Package holders must have a government Approved Provider to administer funds appropriately and to meet ongoing government compliance, on their behalf. This is a government requirement and cannot be done by the individual.
