Our overnight care services take into account the unique needs and preferences of each person and allow the primary carer to temporarily step away from their caring role. Our customised and flexible services, whether it is a few hours of care or for a few weeks, can meet the care needed of individuals and allow the usual carer to get the necessary rest overnight.

When to consider nightly respite care assistance.

When the primary carer feels exceptionally tired or needs time away, we can work with you to find a carer suitable for your unique requirements. Based on your needs you may want to consider respite care for 1-2 nights per week or for a few hours at a time each night.

How does respite care support you?

Carers will stay overnight in your home while the previous carers take a break. They will assist you with routine evening tasks such as bathing, meals, and toileting. Carers will also monitor your condition and contact a doctor if necessary.

Scheduling nightly respite care with us.

When you sign up with us your Care Manager will create a personalised Care Plan that will outline whether nighttime respite care is appropriate for your needs. We will then help you to access resources to find the suitable carers, ensuring they understand your specific situation and needs. Once you find a carer you’re comfortable with it’s up to you to schedule the times they visit in line with the Care Plan.

What are the different options for nighttime care?

For those with complicated care needs it may be appropriate to have a carer stay over at night time to monitor any changes. This particular care is more common for those requiring 24/7 support. You may also be eligible to visit an aged care home that provides temporary nighttime care at its centre.

How to set up your respite care services.

We help you get your respite care services started quickly to ensure you get the support you need to continue living safely and happily at home. With us it’s easy!

The first step is to talk to one of our Care Experts and we will discuss which option will best suit you or the care needs of your loved one.

Respite care can provide temporary carers to assist with personal care, such as help with going to the bathroom, getting dressed and mobility around the home. They may also assist with preparing meals, medication reminders, and safety supervision overnight. 

You may also be eligible to attend a residential respite care centre, and experience care in small groups or through one-on-one care. These centres may provide social activities and meal services.

The price of respite care is influenced by various factors, including the type of care needed, the duration of services, the level of care required, and available funding sources. Additional services, such as transportation or meal preparation, may also impact overall costs you pay. You may also choose for centre-based respite or in home care which will have different costs.
The time covered can vary depending on assessed needs, the Home Care Package level, and the subsidies approved. You can apply for the service and get a free assessment by contacting My Aged Care, after your application is approved, you’ll be allocated respite through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme or in your Home Care Package.
